Hydraulics and thermodynamics are at the core of many debottlenecking, expansion, and troubleshooting projects. I have performed steady-state and transient hydraulic and thermodynamic analysis for liquid and gas pipelines and piping systems using custom-developed software built specifically for the problem at hand.
Created a custom hydraulic analysis software program that evaluated the degree of paraffin buildup in a pipeline by interpreting SCADA data.
Inline inspections, hydrostatic tests, pipeline cleaning and purging, and commissioning/decommissioning operations require detailed procedures informed by previous experience — not templates. I have planned and executed these operations on live hydrocarbon systems, including developing novel approaches that reduce cost and risk to personnel.
Developed and executed a nitrogen purge procedure for a heavy fuel oil pipeline following severe ILI findings. Calculated flush water volumes, nitrogen quantities, and injection rates; sized a relief valve for overpressure protection; and monitored the purge in real time to verify full displacement.
Small projects under $1MM are often the hardest to staff properly at large companies. They are handed to overloaded project managers, or assigned to people who lack the technical depth to properly define scope and avoid scope creep. I manage small capital projects from scope definition through contractor closeout, with the technical background to catch problems early.
Managed pipeline, facility, and storage tank inspection and repair projects for BP US Pipelines. Developed budgets and schedules, coordinated contractors, and performed design engineering in accordance with ASME B31.4.
From high-rate flowback tests to pig traps, I have designed surface facilities for oil and gas systems from the ground up. I can develop engineering work packs — P&IDs, isometric drawings, equipment lists, bills of material — and work directly with construction contractors and operations personnel to see projects through to successful startup.
Proposed a novel separator configuration for an Eagle Ford Shale high-rate flowback test that cut more than $1MM from the anticipated project cost. Wells were brought online 84 days after the initial project discussion and reached their target rates successfully with my design (4,400 BPD and 4,000 BPD).
Reach out by email to start a conversation about your project needs. I'm happy to discuss scope, timeline, and whether your project is a good fit. I am licensed as a professional engineer in Illinois and Texas, and my engineering services are limited to states where I am licensed. I maintain an active NCEES record and can seek comity licensure in additional states if a need arises.
