Peter Maginot, PE

I'm an Illinois and Texas-licensed licensed professional engineer with experience in project management, pipeline and piping system design, process equipment sizing, and process surveillance and troubleshooting for oil and gas facilities and pipelines. I have been a field-based engineer for most of my career, and have gained a wealth of firsthand knowledge of gathering and transmission pipeline and processing facility design and operational practice.

A few problems I've solved

Pigging Modification and Inline Inspection

I planned an inline inspection on two parallel pipelines which had never before been inspected with an inline inspection tool. I designed a piping modification to allow an inspection tool to pass from one line directly into the other so that both lines could be inspected with a single tool pass. I worked with refinery engineers to devise a procedure to use existing pumps and tankage to propel the inspection tool, eliminating the need for costly temporary equipment. The inspection run was successfully completed on time and on budget.

Water Handling Facility Design

I designed modifications to several gathering facilities to handle the introduction of produced water into a crude oil inlet stream. This involved validating separator sizing, calculating required storage volumes and pipe sizing for the anticipated water flow rates, and designing a tank and truck loading station layout that is expandable if additional capacity is required in the future.

Pig Receiver Extension

To accommodate an inline inspection tool that was longer than the existing pig receiver, I designed a piping modification to the existing pig receiver to accommodate the inspection tool's length. The site's constraints required an unusual layout for the extended receiver. I was able to incorporate the existing receiver into the extension to reduce the number of new welds required. The inspection tool was received successfully with the extended trap.
